Summer’s longer days give me more time to spend with my daughters, enjoying the outdoors.
While they’re are out of school, we love heading for the beach and the open-air setting of the Barefoot Beach Cafe. The casual cafe is easy to find on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki, at Queen’s Surf Beach across from the Kapiolani Park Bandstand, and a short walk away from Waikiki Aquarium.
In the morning, you can enjoy French toast or an açaí granola bowl. Later on in the day, cool off with a North Shore Pineapple Smoothie to go with plate lunches, salads or sandwiches.
After picking up your food, you can enjoy it at picnic tables or on a rock wall with your toes in the sand, steps away from the ocean.
The cafe looks especially magical at night, when hanging lights compete with the stars in the sky. On Friday nights, just follow your nose toward the smell of steaks being cooked on a grill during the cafe’s weekly Friday Beach BBQ featuring Angus steak, fresh fish and half-rack pork ribs.
This month, they’ve introduced Queen’s Surf + Turf Saturdays that includes a prime rib carving station with the option to add three or six pieces of the cafe’s popular garlic shrimp! I can’t think of a better place to be on a carefree weekend .
